Cut the Rope

There are a lot of puzzle games in the iTunes App Store, but few are quite as brilliant or inspired as Chillingo’s Cut the Rope. The game mechanics are just that — brilliant: Simply swipe your finger over the touchscreen to cut a rope from the puzzle, causing a piece of candy to fall or swing across the screen and into the waiting mouth of a cute green monster named OmNom. That may sound easy, but it’s not nearly as simple as it seems. Each stage also includes three stars that you’re supposed to collect via the swinging rope before you deliver the candy into OmNom’s waiting jaws. Good luck figuring out which rope to cut and in what order — and timing everything perfectly!

Puzzles ramp up in difficulty over time as the cuts and timing become more precise, requiring you to avoid bashing the candy into spikes or other hazards, or having it get stolen by spiders working their ways across the ropes.

With great physics and smart puzzles, it’s easy to see why Cut the Rope is extremely popular — it’s a quality game (and an award-winning one at that). For a mere 99 cents, we can’t think of a reason you wouldn’t want this app on your phone.
