When you think NASCAR, what sorts of people come to mind? OK, we’re not trying to be judgmental here, but we don’t see a lot of hipster, tech-loving smartphone users usually tied to racing events. However, we think that’s about to change with the Daytona International Speedway app.
Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said in a News 13 interview, “We all want to attract the next generation of fan. And if we’re looking at anyone who’s in the 18- to 25-year-old bracket, technology is a huge part of their [NASCAR] experience.” Right you are, Mr. Chitwood.
The Daytona International Speedway app takes a few seconds to load, but we forgive this slight hiccup because there is so much stuff crammed into this one app—it’s no wonder the thing can’t load everything instantly. The app’s homepage is separated into four extremely convenient categories: Buy Mobile Tickets, Race Weekend Info, Social Media and Guest Services. Each is jam-packed with information, so we’ll spare you the babble and only share our favorites.
Within Race Weekend Info lies everything you need to know about navigating an event at the Speedway. You can get Google Maps directions to the venue from your current GPS location, race-time information (don’t miss the big Daytona 500 event at 1 p.m. February 26th!) plus concert and pre-race ceremony start times. Check out the Speedway’s gate policies (seat cushions are allowed; fireworks and strollers are not) and parking tips.
You’ll also find the Friend Finder in the Race Weekend section. This is cool: The app asks you to enter your name to receive a pin number. Give this number to your friends who will attend the same event, and you can easily find where one another are located.
Another super convenient feature is the Maps tab, where you can view maps of the track, campgrounds, tram and shuttle locations, concession stands, and more—literally everything you need to find your way around the mammoth lot. If you tap either of the GPS maps, you can use the Near Me tool to find the closest locations. (No more bathroom hunting!) The other maps are helpful, too, but you can only zoom in and out of the images.
Lastly, we suggest having a look at the Social Media section within the Race Weekend category. Here, you can browse tweets related to the Speedway and NASCAR events, view the Speedway’s Facebook page, and watch related videos from the app’s YouTube stream.
There’s much more you can do with this app, such as check out daily events in the monthly calendars or book tickets after viewing a colorful seating chart, so it goes without saying that any NASCAR fan needs to download this app. Now go on and enjoy the sunshine at Daytona Beach and the thunder at the Daytona International Speedway.
