If you have a smartphone and want a hassle-free way to give back to charities, here’s an app for you. The Give 2 Charity app lets you earn points simply by carrying your phone, and these points generate charity donations.

Once you’ve created a profile, it’s time to start earning points. You can do so by referring friends, sharing Give 2 Charity with your social networks or answering survey questions. Each activity is worth a point value (immediate referrals get more points than extended ones).

But the easiest way to earn points is to simply go about your day, allowing the app to run in the background of your phone and access your GPS location.

If you’re thinking this is too good to be true, there is a reason behind Give 2 Charity’s method. The app’s page in the marketplace states that users’ location data is used “for the purpose of analytics and reporting.” Further, “Location data is pooled with data collected from thousands of users to provide meaningful insights to third parties about the population at large.”

But back to the good stuff: donations. Earn 5,000 points, for example, and bank a $10 donation. You can check your balance in your profile, however your balance only updates once a day.

Choose to donate to popular charities such as Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the American Red Cross.

So there you have it. If you’re iffy on sharing your location, this app might not be for you. (However, Give 2 Charity claims that it does not use your data for any advertisement-related cause.) If you have confidence in the app and like to give back, download it. It’s free, so you have nothing to lose.
