Whether you’re lucky enough to travel across the pond to London with your Summer Games tickets in hand or you plan to cheer on your team from home, the free London 2012 Results app is a must-have to keep up to date on event schedules, standings, athlete news and, of course, medals.
The app is divided into five main categories: Schedule, Sports, Medals, Athletes and My Games. App users first see a live schedule of the latest events when opening the app. Select the calendar view to scroll through the 2-week schedule and see exact times for all sports on all days. Tapping a day and a sport of interest will bring up specific times and countries competing. Tap the clock icon to add the event to your personal game-reminder schedule to ensure you don’t miss the action.
If you’re only interested in particular sports and would rather bypass the events shown by day, tap Sports from the category menu. Choose from the 36 sports to see the complete schedules for all competitions in that discipline. After selecting the sport of your choice, you can view the latest news, view the photo gallery and learn everything there is to know about that particular sport. The About section comes complete with YouTube videos demonstrating the sport, a text page to read about the rules and a section describing the London venue that will house the events during the 2012 Games. All this information can also be emailed to yourself or a friend or shared via Facebook and Twitter.
The Medals section gives you the results you’re sure to crave. View the overall standings by country to see which nation has the most gold, silver and bronze medals, or break it down by sport and athlete. The Info section provides photos and background information on the specialized design for the 2012 medals of the London Summer Games.
Ever spotted an athlete on TV or wanted to learn more about a new rising star on the field? The app gives you bios on all the pro athletes in the events. You can browse athletes by sport or choose the country filter to find only those athletes that represent your nation (or even your rival nation).
Last, but certainly not least, is the My Games section. Here is where you can customize which country you want to tweet during the Games. This is also a collection hub for all event news and medal standings. The events and athletes that you stored while browsing through the app will appear under Favourites. The reminder button brings up the schedules you saved to your viewing list. And, you can shop straight from the My Games section for all the essential 2012 Summer Games gear to show your pride.
Overall, this is a great companion app to the London 2012 Join In app from the London Olympic Committee. While this app makes it easy to follow your country’s progress right down to the athletes themselves, more social sharing features and reminders that could be sent through email to friends would have made this app experience a gold medal winner. But, if you’re simply interested in staying up to speed on which nation is at the top of the winner’s charts, the London 2012 Results app for the Summer Games is by far your cup of tea.
