Mardi Gras Live
Can’t make it to the 2012 Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans? The Mardi Gras Live app can take you there. Watch partiers enjoy karaoke in the Cat’s Meow or catching beads from the “royalty” on Bourbon Street. The app also enables you to see the local weather in New Orleans, throw virtual beads to your friends on Facebook and snap pics in a virtual photo booth.

Not everybody can venture down to New Orleans for Mardi Gras 2012, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the festivities.
The Mardi Gras Live app brings live video feeds from the events of the carnival, making two webcams available to users who can’t attend in person: one at The Cat’s Meow karaoke bar in the French Quarter and the other on Bourbon Street itself. Both show you a cross-section of Mardi Gras while it’s happening.
Mardi Gras Live also contains a few interesting features to help you feel like you’re in New Orleans. It has weather listings for the city and the ability to “throw beads” to your friends on social networking sites like Facebook. There’s also a virtual photo booth that lets you take snapshots of yourself and then superimpose a Mardi Gras mask on the result.
The bead-throwing and mask-making are fun, if a bit goofy, but you might find yourself wishing there were more windows into the Bourbon Street action. The app has a very specific niche audience with its live feeds, and while it’s interesting, don’t necessarily expect it to give you the full Mardi Gras experience.
