Petfinder.com’s iPhone app helps unite potential pet owners with their future best friends.

The app connects you with local animal shelters that have animals in need of homes. Pick what kind of animal you’re looking for (dogs, cats or other), and Petfinder connects with its partners in your area to show pictures of animals that need adoption.

You’ll start with a gallery of photos that you can tap for more information about each animal. Once you’ve found an animal that fits your needs, you can read more about it, call up the shelter where it’s located or mark it as a favorite as you continue your search. It’s as simple as that, really.

You can share pets you find in the app through Facebook, Twitter and email. Petfinder also includes stories of pets that have been adopted into loving families, some of which can be pretty inspirational.
