Putting a World of Warcraft-style massively multiplayer online role-playing game on a mobile device is difficult. On PCs and other platforms, these games are huge — on a phone or tablet, the game has to be just as engaging but scaled down. Perfectly hitting this mark is Pocket Legends, a game in which you take on the role of an adventurer and complete quests while playing along with millions of other players around the world.
Fans of MMOs will recognize most of Pocket Legends’ core mechanics, like its easy two-button interface and the ability to gather new abilities, weapons and equipment. You can also chat with your fellow players with different portions of the big, full, drop-down interface. Ideally, though, Pocket Legends is also the kind of game you can hop into for just a bit and join up with some other players to take down some monsters and complete a few quests before putting it back in your pocket. It has lots to play through like a normal MMO, but matches that with a cute aesthetic and easy controls that anyone can pick up.
