Bargain hunters can make sure that no good deal passes them by with this handy shopping app. Using Quick Scan, you can scan a product’s barcode with your camera while you browse through the store (the app reads all types: UPC, EAN, ISBN, etc.). Your phone vibrates or beeps once the scan succeeds and the app searches prices and product details from other major retailers such as Amazon, Wal-Mart, eBay and BestBuy.
The biggest incentive is the instant price comparison you get while using this app. Instead of Googling the product or accessing individual product retailers’ sites to check for better deals, Quick Scan gives you a quick, accurate comparison.
You can even filter the search results by price or store. And once you find the best deal, feel free to purchase your product right then and there through Quick Scan. Save the item and buy it later or email the link to share the product with your friends.
Quick Scan has a quirky design that makes navigation all the more enjoyable. Products on grid pages look like they are taped to the screen, and brightly colored tags scatter the app and offer navigation help. The interface offers Scan, History, Favorites and Settings tabs along the bottom of the screen. History records all your scans and makes it easy for you to pull up product details whenever you need them. Favorites is where you keep the items you have your eye on.
One feature we would like to see is the ability for the barcode scanner (and the whole app’s navigation) to switch to landscape mode when you turn your phone sideways. Another note: The free Quick Scan app is scattered with advertisements that urge you to upgrade to Quick Scan Pro. This $0.99 version is worth checking out if you scan barcodes a lot (for some reason).
Overall, though, Quick Scan is worth a free download. If you’re that bargain hunter always wondering if you’re missing out on a better deal online, then you just found your newest shopping companion.
