Skype is a fantastic alternative to FaceTime when you want to talk face-to-face with friends and family.

If you haven't used Skype on your smartphone yet, you simply don’t know what you’re missing. The popular voice over IP (VoIP) program originally came to the iPhone in a limited capacity — offering Wi-Fi Skype calls only. Since adding data support so you can use it over 3G, the usefulness of this app skyrocketed.
Whether you’re a Skype in/out subscriber (meaning you can call actual phone numbers) or simply a user of the program itself, you’ll find having access to your Skype friends list on your phone wonderfully useful. Since Skype recently introduced support of video calls, it’s a fantastic alternative to FaceTime when you want to talk face-to-face with friends and family.
The app itself is easy to use and feels very similar to the desktop program. You’ll be amazed at how often you’ll end up using this, especially if you’re already a Skype addict. Good thing it’s free.
