Slacker Radio is like a personalized radio station made just for you. The app streams music over the Internet, using either a 3G or a Wi-Fi connection, and has a bunch of customization options for finding the kind of content you want to hear. The app is filled with curated stations by genre or music type, just like regular, over-the-air radio, and lets you alter your stations to include more or less of a certain kind of music, or more or fewer of particular songs or bands. If you’ve used Pandora Radio, you’ll recognize a similar experience in Slacker.

Slacker does pack a few quality additional features when compared to other Internet radio apps. For one, it includes news stations and access to regular Internet radio stations you might already listen to, as well as the ability to customize the music you’re hearing. It also features on-demand access to music, but that requires a monthly subscription of about $5. Slacker works about as well as other Internet radio offerings — which is to say, pretty darn well — and is a good substitute for listening to the same tracks in your smartphone’s music library over and over.
