By Square, Inc.
Though the list of participating businesses is small, Square Wallet is an easy-to-use, solid app to use as a virtual wallet.

From the popular mobile-payment company Square, the Square Wallet app is your modern-day virtual wallet. Unlike the Square Register app, which connects to a small white (and square-shaped) credit card reader to accept credit transactions, the Square Wallet app covers the opposite end of the payment spectrum and lets you pay for things at participating locations.
When you first launch Square Wallet, the app will immediately require you to create an account by entering your name, email address, password and credit card number (you can add multiple credit cards). As a security measure, this password will need to be submitted moving forward in order to view and edit your credit card information.
Once your card information is submitted and saved, Square Wallet scans your GPS location for businesses that accept the app. Up pops a list of these businesses, each with a summary of the location, address and links to websites. You’ll even see a few places that offer deals when you use your Square app to pay. You can add any Square-accepting business to your Wallet, one of the app’s sections where you can quickly access your frequently visited spots.
Undeniably, the downside of Square Wallet has to do with the less than robust list of participating businesses. That is also the downside of any mobile payment app, though, and it’s something that’ll continue to improve with technology like NFC (Near Field Communication).
Another bonus for caffeine junkies: Starbucks will begin accepting payments via Square Wallet beginning in November at about 7,000 U.S. locations. You’ll have to wait until the summer of 2013, however, in order to tip with the app.
