Some of the best games in the App Store are the simplest. One of the runners-up to Angry Birds as the most popular game of 2010, Fruit Ninja is ridiculously simple, highly addictive and tons of fun.
While newer additions have added different types of game play and new levels, the original concept behind Fruit Ninja is to use your swiping abilities, speed and accuracy to cut open juicy fruits. No tanks, no guns. A relief, right? The app offers cartoonish but very high-quality graphics, which look great even on the iPhone 4 retina display, and the sort of repetitive but challenging game play one looks for in a mobile game.
Integrated into the game is a host of social features. Twitter, Facebook, OpenFeint Leaderboards and, most recently, Game Center will keep you challenging yourself against friends and sharing your awesome ninja triumphs. At only $0.99, it’s no wonder this app has been downloaded more than 6 million times!
