Infinity Blade is a landmark title on Apple’s iOS platform. Developer ChAIR teamed with console video game maker Epic Games to utilize Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 to create the game’s graphics, and the result is visuals on the iPhone that are on par with many of the games you can get for $60 at big-box stores. The most remarkable thing about Infinity Blade: It’s the best-looking game on the iPhone. Period.
Oh, and it’s a lot of fun to play, too. As a lone warrior seeking vengeance for the death of his father, you take on enemies of various sizes in a series of one-on-one sword battles, armed with only a blade in one hand, a shield in the other. Each battle comes down to your skill in blocking, dodging, and parrying enemy attacks using a combination of virtual buttons and swipes for sword strikes — as an enemy brings a blow down from the left, you swipe to the right to block it. The sword combat gets pretty intense, and it’s balanced by role-playing game mechanics through which you enhance your character and seek out new, better fighting equipment.
Believe us, this is six bucks well spent.
